Together with a terrific group of collaborators-artists-musicians, Thanasis Papakonstantinou presents in Berlin a program with songs from his entire recording history and especially his latest album ʻO Elahistos Eaftosʼ (Inner Ear Records 2011) with his 10 member band!

Thanasis Papakonstantinou has written and produced some of the best music, Greek discography has to offer in the last 20 years. He is a t songwriter and lyricist whose songs have been performed by such important singers as Socratis Malamas, Melina Kana, Matoula Zamani, Lizeta Kalimeri, Giannis Aggelakas and the late Nikos Papazoglou. His compositions bring together diverse influences ranging from free jazz improvisations and post-rock to Greek folk music and popular ballads, the West with the East, a fusion mixing traditional Greek and Turkish / Arab music with rempetika. What is coming out of the synergy of so many different kinds of music, that, as a matter of fact, come from different musical styles, leads to something entirely new, that cannot be covered by the existing music terminology.

Taner Akyol is also one of the most well known contemporary saz virtuosos. He was the first who brought the baglama to the attention of the European composers and academic scene. In his long career, he has had several CD releases, including a CD with the famous Theodoraki’s performer, singer Maria Farantouri. Taner Akyol’s music is committed to the western European avant-garde, still influenced, however, by the sounds of the composer’s cultural heritage.

Their live appearances are always unforgettable. Liveliness, dancing and improvisation are some of the things you should expect.
